Exceptional value, a well constructed Lionel product. Product was as advertised, price could not be beat. Checked with several hobby stores and their price was $75.00-$150.00 more.

Lionel O Guage Polar Express Train Set

This O Guage set is a beautiful train set, very heavy and durable when set up. Be careful removing from the foam packaging however. I picked the engine up in the dark of the basement prior to Christmas and broke some of the small plastic loops that hold the wire on. Too late to see the strap they provide you to remove the engine from the foam packaging. Other than that, the set is very durable, and did i say heavy? Stays on the track very well. I had shopped around on the net, and Amazon had the best price with delivery by Christmas time.

Great train when the price is right.

Bought this after Christmas for 212. At this price I cannot complain. The engine alone was cost 150 or more and the z80 power supply is about 70 dollars, circle track set costs 40 to buy, and not to forget the pasenger cars 35 a piece, this set is still underpriced at msrp. That is the trick with Lionel, they sell a set real cheap to get you in the door. Then you are floored with how much anything is additional unless you win an auction.
As for quality, considering the “real” detailed Lionel engines are over 1,000 each, this train is no let down in build quality. Obviously since this still is a “model”, bulls in the china shop probably expect it to be indestructible. The engine is heavy and does contain some “delicate” details on the exterior. Parents with poorly behaved children should avoid anything like this requiring care so the engine is not doomed to the trash heap. For well parented children, this train provides an evening of entertainment. Of course get ready to second mortgage the home to buy expansion sets to keep things fun in the long run.

Great Classic Train

Great train! The kids loved it and it feels very durable. The only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars on the durability is because I wish the passenger cars were metal like the old super-O Lionel trains used to be. I highly recommend this!

A Fun Versatile Train

The quality of the train speaks for itself. Easy to set up and operate. The unit I bought came with a 30 watt power pack (controller) with no accessory posts. The 30-watt controller provides inadequate power; make sure you get the 80 watt controller. The box calls for an 80-watt unit, but somehow I ended up with the wrong controller in my box. Other than that it’s been a lot of fun. Quality is what you’d expect from a flagship company like Lionel. I have since bought 3 more train sets and have assured myself of the correct controller. Have fun with it; I’m sure you family will love this train for years to come. As a side note, I bought the upgrade Sounds Tender, Chocolate Car, Hobo Car and the Santa’s Elfs handcar. Nice add-on which will enhance the pleasure of your Christmas train for years to come.

Lionel Brings us a Christmas Classic

I bought this set to run under my Christmas Tree. I have a carpeted floor, and a skirt under the tree, upon which the track sits. Despite the very soft surface, the train handles just wonderfully, and looks excellent running circles under the evergreen.

I’ve never owned Lionel trains before, but have been an avid modeler in N and HO Scales, so I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect. But I have to say, whatever expectations I may have had about the set, we’re blown away when I began unpacking!

The Locomotive is HEAVY, which impressed my greatly, has excellent detail, and looks excellent, headlight shining, smoke blowing as it steams around. The cars, with their lighted interiors, and ‘imitation shadow’ windows look equally impressive.

The track provided, standard 3-rail (AC power of course) snaps together easily, holds together well, yet doesn’t require great force to pull apart again. (I started with a square layout, then switched to a circle, no problem). The roadbed looks stylish enough, complete with painted black ties, all in all, a very nice addition to an excellent train!

Lastly, the power pack, a solid unit, with a touch of style too-a bright orange throttle lever and a solid black power unit, complete with the three buttons-only beware, there is only a whistle, no bell-it compliments a quality set nicely.

Being used to highly detailed smaller gauge models, I was greatly impressed with the detail provided by Lionel on the model-this is not your average “Toy Train Set” This is a real model, but perfectly suitable for your child’s first train set (The build quality is suitable for lots of touching and curious hands!)

Just a not of warning: If you want to build just a circle of track, like myself, for under the tree use, you will need to do a bit of DIY work-because the power track (the piece that is wired to attach to the control pack) is a straight! however-Lionel provides an accessory wire in the set, and with a bit of work, this can be attached on the reverse side of a curved piece of track to the appropriate wires, and your problem is solved!

All in all, I love the set. The dog is still a bit tepid as to what to think, but I don’t think that has too much to do with anything that concerns the product ;) A truly wonderful set from America’s Toy Train company, Lionel.

I bought this train set for my youngest son who it currently 7 years old. We had a great time setting it up and played with it for hours thereafter. As soon as you unpack the train engine, you’ll know that you bought a quality train set. I was amazed of the weight and craftsmanship of the engine and the rest of the set is just as appealing.

If your looking for a train set that will last, this is the one for you.

Thanks Amazon.

I bought this train set for my 6 yr. old grandson. He really loves the story and now he has his own “Polar Express”!
It is a very special toy and I hope he will be able to share it someday with his own children.

I ordered this train set for my 2 and 4 year old grandsons. Actually, I think my son ( their father)wanted it more than the boys did. The train is made very well and the cars are big and strong enough for the boys to handle without worrying about breaking them. Of course, it still requires an adult to supervise. The controller for the engine is big and easy for little hands to operate. The track is excellent and fits together nicely. It does not fall apart. It is easy to place the train’s wheels on the track. This is an expensive train, but is is well worth it and will be around for years of enjoyment.

Our Polar Express Lionel train set just arrived today. We didn’t set it up yet, but it looks great, feels sturdy and well made, and it’ll sure be a hit at Christmas time. We were lucky to find it at LandsEnd.com (yes, the clothing catalog company)! The Lionel trains we’ve already had are fun, durable, and have lasted for years.
